Our Lady of Guadalupe first appeared to an Aztec peasant at Juan Diego with a request to build a church. The miracles, presence of the lady and their new found faith encouraged the Aztecs to end the senseless sacrifices of their own people to pagan gods. The largest sacrifice known to happen was up to 20,000 people in a single day.

The famous print of Our Lady of Guadalupe miraculously appeared on Diego's tilma. Her original life-sized image on his cactus-fibre tilma cloak still persists today in perfect preservation, after 500 years, in Mexico.
Many other miracles occurred, including the Castillian roses, the sudden healing of Diego's uncle, and Diego's neighbour being raised back to life due to Our Lady's intercession. This brought an end to human sacrifices, and resulted in the conversion of nine million Aztecs to conversion in less than ten years. |
